Family, Fun and Flight ready to fly again

“These guys have put a lot of work into building their aircraft in some cases. Some of them have come up from scratch and some of them they’ve had for years and years,” says organizing committee member Tricia Nardari. “There’s a lot of pride in the aviation community in Medicine Hat and the opportunity to show some people that wouldn’t normally see it is going to be a highlight.”

Nardari also says people can take to the sky for a sightseeing tour.

She says it’s a 15-minute tour around the city. Three passengers are allowed on each flight for a $25 fee.

“It gives you the opportunity to see Medicine Hat from an angle a lot of people haven’t seen it from,” she says. “And it’s really fun and it’s a really great opportunity to get kids encouraged and motivated and excited about aviation and you know that’s, kind of the goal of the program is to have people looking down the road, especially the kids and considering aviation as a career because there’s so many different options and that’s what we love to be able to present.”

There will also be displays from the Medicine Hat Aviation Historical Society, HALO Air Ambulance and CanWest will be on hand with their medical aircraft and other organizations like Medicine Hat police and fire services will also be part of the day.

The committee has been working towards this weekend’s event for two years, Nardari says.

After the former chairperson passed away a few years ago the event floundered and Nardari says this weekend is a re-entry of sorts to the community.
