Prairie Rose announces Reagan Weeks as next superintendent

DUNMORE, AB – Prairie Rose Public Schools has stayed in-house to hire its next superintendent.

Deputy superintendent Reagan Weeks will take over from Roger Clarke, who announced his retirement in the spring.

Weeks says she’s thankful for the opportunity to continue collaborating with colleagues to design exceptional learning experiences for the students.

“It’s certainly an honour and I’m humbled to carry on the work of a division that has completed incredible efforts for students across our region,” she says.

Weeks has been involved in many recent initiatives to grow the number of educational opportunities for Prairie Rose students including the South Alberta Hockey Academy and the Dave Rozdeba South Alberta Flight Academy.

She says the division will continue to enhance programming and tailor learning opportunities to students.

“We are launching Prairie Rose Possibilities this year and that is targeting different programming in each of our regions that best suits students,” says Weeks. “So things like equine and incorporating that into the learning objectives in the school really provides a place-based learning platform to deeper embed curriculum objectives and that’s an avenue we hope to continue. So certainly equine, e-sports is an area we have some interests in so those are the types of initiatives are areas we’ll exploring and really basing that on connecting and collaborating with the community.”

Weeks says collaboration will be key to how the school division moves forward.

“We will have an election shortly and that board of trustees will be a group that I collaborate closely with along with numerous people involved in Prairie Rose and our stakeholders to design the next strategic plan,” she says.

The current strategic plan ends in June.

While she’s looking forward to her new role, she can’t help also looking back.

“Teachers have been outstanding in the last year and a half as we’ve moved throughout this pandemic. The way they’ve responded has just been exceptional and I know that energy and spirit will continue forward as we look to the next steps and hopefully a brighter future.”

Weeks will officially assume the role on Nov. 1.
