24 new cases in city, 206 in province

Medicine Hat tops 100 active COVID-19 cases again

Medicine Hat has once again hit a dubious COVID-19 milestone, breaching 100 active cases for the first time since the end of May.

There are 103 active cases of COVID-19 in the city on Wednesday.

Medicine Hat has had 1,383 total cases – the 103 active, 1,258 recovered and there have been 22 deaths.

There are 24 new cases in the city since Tuesday and seven new recoveries.

61 per cent of Hatters have received at least one dose of vaccine at the latest update. 54.3 per cent of Hatters are fully vaccinated.

There are 2,282 active cases in the province, up 106 from Tuesday, and 230,634 recovered cases in the province, up 100.

Alberta’s total cases from the start of the pandemic is 235,244.

There are 206 new cases in the province today, and 823 more variant of concern cases have been identified.

There are now 97 Albertans in hospital with COVID-19, 23 of which are in ICU, and 2,328 deaths.

The province completed 5,429 tests in the past 24 hours.

The positivity rate is about 3.8 per cent.

Alberta has administered 5,344,785 doses of vaccine at the latest update.

Province-wide, 76.1 per cent of Albertans 12 years old and up have received at least one dose of vaccine and 66 per cent are fully vaccinated.

Among Albertans of all ages, 64.7 per cent have received at least one dose of vaccine and 56.1 per cent are fully vaccinated.

There are 230 active cases and 12,417 recovered in the South Zone. The death total in the zone is at 137. There are 10 people in hospital in the zone, none in ICU.

The province-wide reproductive value for the week of July 19-25 is 1.48. It is 1.50 in Calgary Zone, 1.37 in Edmonton Zone and 1.48 in the rest of Alberta.

It’s updated every two weeks. At the last update from July 5-11 the numbers were 0.84, province-wide, 0.88 in Calgary Zone, 0.97 in Edmonton Zone and 0.69 in the rest of Alberta.

Cypress County has totaled 326 cases. There are 23 active cases, 302 recovered and one death. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 51.8 per cent, the two-dose rate is 44.7.

The County of Forty Mile has 158 total cases. There is one active case, 154 recovered and there have been three deaths. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 30.6 per cent, the two-dose rate is 26.6.

The MD of Taber has 575 total cases — three active cases, 566 recovered and there have been six deaths. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 37.4 per cent, the two-dose rate is 32.7.

Special Areas No. 2 has 106 total cases – two active cases, 103 recovered and there has been one death.

Brooks has 1,540 total cases — 35 active cases and 1,490 are recovered. Brooks has recorded 15 deaths.

The County of Newell has a total of 253 cases — five active cases, 245 recovered and there have been three deaths. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 51 per cent, the two-dose rate is 43.3. The Newell numbers include the city of Brooks.

The County of Warner has 469 total cases. There is one active case, 465 are recovered cases and there have been three deaths in the county. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 46.7 per cent, the two-dose rate is 40.4.

The City of Lethbridge has a total of 4,883 cases. There are 36 active cases, 4,807 recovered and there have been 40 deaths. Lethbridge County has 1,274 cases, 11 active cases, 1,250 recovered and there have been 13 deaths.

Not all the areas on the vaccination data map match the case count map.

The figures on alberta.ca are “up-to-date as of end of day Aug. 3, 2021.”

Saskatchewan has a total of 50,181 cases, 483 considered active. There are 49,119 recovered cases and there have been 579 COVID-19 deaths in the province.
