Active COVID-19 cases still growing, majority in Calgary Zone

The growth rate of Medicine Hat’s active COVID-19 case count slowed over the weekend but is still climbing.

There are 86 active cases in the city on Tuesday.

Medicine Hat has had 1,359 total cases – the 86 active, 1,251 recovered and there have been 22 deaths.

There are 25 new cases in the city since the last update on Friday and one new recovery.

60.9 per cent of Hatters have received at least one dose of vaccine at the latest update. 54.1 per cent of Hatters are fully vaccinated.

There are 2,176 active cases in the province, up 521 from Friday, and 230,534 recovered cases in the province, up 222.

The Calgary Zone has 1,234 of the total active cases in Alberta. Edmonton Zone has 402 active cases, South Zone 210, North Zone 189, Central Zone 133 and 10 are from unknown locations.

Alberta’s total cases from the start of the pandemic is 235,038.

There are 743 new cases in the province since the Friday update.

There are now 90 Albertans in hospital with COVID-19, 23 of which are in ICU, and 2,328 deaths.

The province completed 17,738 tests since the Friday update.

The positivity rate is about 3.4 per cent.

Alberta has administered 5,331,823 doses of vaccine at the latest update.

Province-wide, 76 per cent of Albertans 12 years old and up have received at least one dose of vaccine and 65.8 per cent are fully vaccinated.

Among Albertans of all ages, 64.7 per cent have received at least one dose of vaccine and 55.9 per cent are fully vaccinated.

There are 210 active cases and 12,410 recovered in the South Zone. The death total in the zone is at 137. There are eight people in hospital in the zone, none in ICU.

The province-wide reproductive value for the week of July 19-25 is 1.48. It is 1.50 in Calgary Zone, 1.37 in Edmonton Zone and 1.48 in the rest of Alberta.

It’s updated every two weeks. At the last update from July 5-11 the numbers were 0.84, province-wide, 0.88 in Calgary Zone, 0.97 in Edmonton Zone and 0.69 in the rest of Alberta.

Cypress County has totaled 322 cases. There are 19 active cases, 302 recovered and one death. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 51.8 per cent, the two-dose rate is 44.5.

The County of Forty Mile has 159 total cases. There are two active cases, 154 recovered and there have been three deaths. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 30.6 per cent, the two-dose rate is 26.5.

The MD of Taber has 574 total cases — three active cases, 565 recovered and there have been six deaths. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 37.4 per cent, the two-dose rate is 32.6.

Special Areas No. 2 has 106 total cases – two active cases, 103 recovered and there has been one death.

Brooks has 1,539 total cases — 36 active cases and 1,488 are recovered. Brooks has recorded 15 deaths.

The County of Newell has a total of 252 cases — four active cases, 245 recovered and there have been three deaths. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 51 per cent, the two-dose rate is 43.1. The Newell numbers include the city of Brooks.

The County of Warner has 468 total cases. There is one active case, 464 are recovered cases and there have been three deaths in the county. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 46.6 per cent, the two-dose rate is 40.2.

The City of Lethbridge has a total of 4,881 cases. There are 38 active cases, 4,803 recovered and there have been 40 deaths. Lethbridge County has 1,272 cases, 10 active cases, 1,249 recovered and there have been 13 deaths.

Not all the areas on the vaccination data map match the case count map.

The figures on alberta.ca are “up-to-date as of end of day Aug. 2, 2021.”

Saskatchewan has a total of 50,120 cases, 449 considered active. There are 49,093 recovered cases and there have been 578 COVID-19 deaths in the province.
