One last goodbye planned for Medicine Hat Arena

MEDICINE HAT, AB – There will be one final farewell to the Medicine Hat Arena.

The building is due to be demolished this fall to make way for a new condominium development, but not before one last trip down memory lane in early September.

NewRock Developments and the city are putting the last pieces together on the sale of the property, which was announced two years ago but was delayed due to the pandemic.

Plans call for a new condominium development on the site, which will be a key piece in the new Waterfront District the city is planning.

NewRock president and CEO Cam Ens says a public farewell to The Arena will take place before it’s demolished.

“We’re still in the planning stages of that, but we want to give the community and everyone who’s got great memories at The Arena a chance to say goodbye and perhaps tour the building before it starts coming down,” says Ens.

The chance to take home a piece of the building is also under consideration.

“Everyone will have an opportunity at that event to potentially pick up some seats or something from the Arena that bring back good memories,” according to Ens.

NewRock Developments announced its Alto Living on Ash Avenue project last February.

Ens says they’re putting extensive time into designing the building, with the first renderings expected in August.
