Active COVID-19 cases in province tops 1,000 again, number rising in Medicine Hat as well

The number of active COVID-19 cases in Alberta is over 1,000 for the first time since the end of June and the province confirmed nearly 400 new cases over the weekend.

There are 27 active cases in the city on Monday.

Medicine Hat has had 1,297 total cases – the 27 active, 1,248 recovered and there have been 22 deaths.

There are eight new cases in the city since the last update on Friday and six new recoveries.

60.5 per cent of Hatters have received at least one dose of vaccine at the latest update.

There are 1,083 active cases in the province, up 284 from Friday, and 230,142 recovered cases in the province, up 103. For comparison, one week ago the province had 605 active cases and on Friday had 799.

Alberta’s total cases from the start of the pandemic is 233,547.

There are 387 new cases in the province since the Friday update, and 374 more variant of concern cases have been identified.

Last Monday there were 130 new cases over the weekend, 115 of which were variants of concern.

There are now 83 Albertans in hospital with COVID-19, 21 of which are in ICU, and 2,322 deaths.

The province completed 17,738 tests since the Friday update.

The positivity rate is about 2.2 per cent.

Alberta has administered 5,221,375 doses of vaccine at the latest update.

Province-wide, 75.4 per cent of Albertans 12 years old and up have received at least one dose of vaccine and 63.4 per cent are fully vaccinated.

Among Albertans of all ages, 64.1 per cent have received at least one dose of vaccine and 54 per cent are fully vaccinated.

There are 85 active cases and 12,389 recovered in the South Zone. The death total in the zone is at 137. There are three people in hospital in the zone, none in ICU.

Medicine Hat Public School Division announced today that a positive COVID-19 case has been connected to its summer school program.

The province-wide reproductive value for the week of July 19-25 is 1.48. It is 1.50 in Calgary Zone, 1.37 in Edmonton Zone and 1.48 in the rest of Alberta.

At the last update from July 5-11 the numbers were 0.84, province-wide, 0.88 in Calgary Zone, 0.97 in Edmonton Zone and 0.69 in the rest of Alberta.

Cypress County has totaled 303 cases. There is one active case, 301 recovered and one death. The latest vaccination rate for all ages is 50.9 per cent.

The County of Forty Mile has 157 total cases. There are no active cases, 154 recovered and there have been three deaths. The latest vaccination rate for all ages is 30.3 per cent.

The MD of Taber has 573 total cases — one active case, 566 recovered and there have been six deaths. The latest vaccination rate for all ages is 37.1 per cent.

Special Areas No. 2 has 106 total cases – two active cases, 103 recovered and there has been one death.

Brooks has 1,524 total cases — 22 active cases and 1,487 are recovered. Brooks has recorded 15 deaths.

The County of Newell has a total of 250 cases — two active cases, 245 recovered and there have been three deaths. The latest vaccination rate for all ages is 50.3 per cent, including Brooks.

The County of Warner has 468 total cases. There are no active cases, 465 are recovered cases and there have been three deaths in the county. The latest vaccination rate for all ages is 46.4 per cent.

The City of Lethbridge has a total of 4,855 cases. There are 17 active cases, 4,798 recovered and there have been 40 deaths. Lethbridge County has 1,266 cases, four active cases, 1,249 recovered and there have been 13 deaths.

Not all the areas on the vaccination data map match the case count map.

The figures on alberta.ca are “up-to-date as of end of day July 25, 2021.”

Saskatchewan has a total of 49,727 cases, 356 considered active. There are 48,792 recovered cases and there have been 579 COVID-19 deaths in the province.

Saskatchewan has delivered 1,388,330 doses of vaccine.
