Two new cases in city, 20 active total

More than 100 new daily COVID-19 cases in Alberta for the first time in a month

The number of active COVID-19 cases in Medicine Hat keeps rising and the province has more than 100 new cases today for the first time in a month.

There are 20 active cases in Medicine Hat on Thursday.

The city has had 1,285 total cases – the 20 active, 1,243 recovered and there have been 22 deaths.

There are four new cases in the city since Wednesday and two new recoveries.

60.2 per cent of Hatters have received at least one dose of vaccine at the latest update.

There are 676 active cases in the province, up 27 from Wednesday, and 230,066 recovered cases in the province, up 77.

Alberta’s total cases from the start of the pandemic is 233,062.

There are 106 new cases in the province today, and 76 more variant of concern cases have been identified.

There are now 93 Albertans in hospital with COVID-19, 26 of which are in ICU, and 2,320 deaths.

The province completed 6,622 tests in the past 24 hours.

The positivity rate is about 1.6 per cent.

Alberta has administered 5,128,351 doses of vaccine at the latest update.

The province says it reached the milestone of 75 per cent of eligible Albertans having received at least one dose of vaccine.

Province-wide, 75 per cent of Albertans 12 years old and up have received at least one dose of vaccine and 61.3 per cent are fully vaccinated.

Among Albertans of all ages, 63.8 per cent have received at least one dose of vaccine and 52.1 per cent are fully vaccinated.

There are 40 active cases and 12,384 recovered in the South Zone. The death total in the zone is at 137.

An AHS spokesperson told CHAT News on Monday AHS South Zone currently has four COVID-19 positive individuals in hospital. There are two at Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge, one at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital and one at the Pincher Creek Health Centre.

The province-wide reproductive value for the week of July 5-11 is 0.84. It is 0.88 in Calgary Zone, 0.97 in Edmonton Zone and 0.69 in the rest of Alberta.

Cypress County has totaled 302 cases. There is one active case, 300 recovered and one death. The latest vaccination rate for all ages is 50.7 per cent.

The County of Forty Mile has 157 total cases. There are no active cases, 154 recovered and there have been three deaths. The latest vaccination rate for all ages is 30.2 per cent.

The MD of Taber has 572 total cases — no active cases, 566 recovered and there have been six deaths. The latest vaccination rate for all ages is 36.8 per cent.

Special Areas No. 2 has 105 total cases – one active case, 103 recovered and there has been one death.

Brooks has 1,505 total cases — three active cases and 1,487 are recovered. Brooks has recorded 15 deaths.

The County of Newell has a total of 248 cases — no active cases, 245 recovered and there have been three deaths. The latest vaccination rate for all ages is 49.9 per cent, including Brooks.

The County of Warner has 468 total cases. There are no active cases, 465 are recovered cases and there have been three deaths in the county. The latest vaccination rate for all ages is 46.3 per cent.

The City of Lethbridge has a total of 4,849 cases. There are 12 active cases, 4,797 recovered and there have been 40 deaths. Lethbridge County has 1,265 cases, one active case, 1,251 recovered and there have been 13 deaths.

Not all the areas on the vaccination data map match the case count map.

The figures on alberta.ca are “up-to-date as of end of day July 21, 2021.”

Saskatchewan has a total of 49,556 cases, 287 considered active. There are 48,694 recovered cases and there have been 575 COVID-19 deaths in the province.

Saskatchewan has delivered 1,366,006 doses of vaccine.
