Education Minister Adriana LaGrange (Government of Alberta)

Province seeking parents, teachers for education system advisory councils

Jul 9, 2021 | 3:35 PM

EDMONTON, AB – The provincial government is looking for feedback from parents and teachers in order to strengthen the education system in Alberta.

Alberta Education is seeking about 80 people to serve as members of either a Parent Advisory Council or a Teacher Advisory Council, with 40 people included in each group. The councils will be able to offer input on the provincial education system directly to Alberta’s Minister of Education, Adriana LaGrange.

The minister stated that, “as a parent of seven children who went through the Alberta education system, I know how important the voices of parents and teachers are.”

“Creating these two advisory councils provides another way for parents and teachers to share their views on education policies and initiatives as we work to improve outcomes for students.”

She said she’s looking forward to hearing the feedback provided by parents and teachers. The councils will include people from various geographical locations, school authority types, socio-economic backgrounds and cultural groups.

Those interested in being a part of the initiative can apply online to the Parent Advisory Council here or to the Teacher Advisory Council here until August 31, 2021.

Successful applicants for each council will be announced later in the fall. Council members will serve a 10-month term, aligned with the school year and members will attend up to four meetings with Adriana LaGrange per term.
