MEDICINE HAT, AB – Public buildings and facilities in Medicine Hat will be reopened to the public on Friday as Alberta enters Stage 3 of the Open for Summer plan.

In a news release, the City of Medicine Hat says it will be a “near-normal experience” for the public.

Here’s what the release says about buildings, services and other matters.

City Hall Access
City Hall, as well as the parkade, will reopen to the public under regular hours of operation from Monday to Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Capacity limits on the first and second floor, as well as the elevators will be lifted.

Esplanade Arts & Heritage Centre
The Esplanade Arts & Heritage Centre, including archives reference services and the TREX space, is now open. Hours of operation are Tuesday to Saturday, 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Additional information about available programming can be found on the Esplanade website.

Family Leisure Centre
The Family Leisure Centre will resume regular operations. Registration for summer camps is already underway and sessions begin on Monday, July 5. Facility bookings will also resume. For more information regarding aquatic and fitness classes, visit the City website and FLC Facebook page.

Veiner Centre
On Monday, July 12, the Veiner Centre will reopen to the public. There will be no membership fee as the City continues to work with Kerby on transitioning the operations to their management team. The Bistro will be open for coffee and tea. An interim summer schedule is available on the City website. Hours of operation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday to Friday.

Medicine Hat Transit
Medicine Hat Transit will continue to operate on its current regular service schedule. Transfers and tickets remain unavailable, while cash fares and bus passes continue to be accepted forms of payment. July bus passes are now available for purchase. Riders are required to continue wearing a mask while on board as the provincial mandate remains in effect.

Council Meetings
City Council meetings will continue to be open to the public with the COVID capacity limit of 50 being lifted for the July 5 meeting. Meetings can still be viewed online on the City’s YouTube channel, online, and on SHAW Spotlight.

Cleaning Standards
Increased cleaning measures and hand sanitization stations will remain in city buildings and facilities for the foreseeable future. The use of masks and physical distancing remains acceptable. We ask for respect for our employees and fellow citizens as we approach these changes with our own pace and comfort levels as we reopen.
