Water donations being collected for vulnerable population

Jun 28, 2021 | 11:51 AM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Salvation Army is preparing for the heat and accepting water donations for the vulnerable population.

Cases of water are being accepted. Sport water bottles can also be donated which will be filled with the centre’s filtered water. The centre also reuses plastic water bottles.

The Salvation Army wants to make sure their clients are keeping hydrated to prevent heatstroke.

Captain Lorenda Dale says they already treated one of their clients for heat exhaustion last week.

She reminds the centre is a spot to get out of the sun.

“Just want to make sure people are aware that they have a place that they can come and cool down and that there’s going to be water available to keep them healthy and keep them from getting sick or overheating and ending up in hospital.”

You can donate water at the Salvation Army resource centre Monday to Friday from 11 a.m-6 p.m.

Meantime, the Mustard Seed in Medicine Hat is looking for donations of water.

They have posted on their social networks that they’re very low on bottled water for their guests right now.

If you are able to help provide some water to The Mustard Seed, they will gratefully accept donations at their Community Support Centre.

It is located at 503A Allowance Ave South East. You can drop it off Monday to Friday from 9 a.m-2 p.m.
