Southwest home damaged by fire

MEDICINE HAT, AB — It was a busy weekend for Medicine Hat firefighters.

In addition to dousing hot spots and monitoring flare up’s from Saturday’s major grass fire, they also dealt with a fire in a residence Sunday morning.

Firefighters were able to contain damage to one room and the contents in the basement of a home in southwest Medicine Hat.

It happened shortly after 10 a.m. Sunday at a residence in the 200 block of 11 Street SW.

The fire damage is estimated at $60,000 and the person in the basement suffered minor burns.

The cause is under investigation.

Fire crews were also called to Argo’s restaurant on Dunmore Road S.E. just before 11 a.m. after a vehicle drove into the building.

Police are still investigating and inspectors are assessing damage to the building.
