Free mental health webinar happening June 29 with current and former NHLers

Jun 26, 2021 | 9:49 PM

The mental health of so many has taken a major blow this past 16 months, which is why I Got Mind (IGM) is hosting an upcoming webinar entitled The Trouble With(in) Men: Insights into why men struggle.

Everyone is welcome to the free 75-minute virtual session, says the award-winning Calgary-based company in a release. IGM’s original focus was mental health within sport organizations, and has expanded to now offer programming for businesses and educational institutions.

The webinar is at 7 p.m. on June 29 and will feature special guests, including current Detroit Red Wing Bobby Ryan, and former NHLer Clint Malarchuk along with wife Joanie. Pro golfer Ian Leggatt and 96.9 Jack FM’s Matt O’Neill will also take part.

IGM’s founder is Bob Wilkie, a former Detroit Red Wing and member of the 1986 Swift Current Broncos whose bus crashed killing four of Wilkie’s teammates. He is the author of Sudden Death: The Incredible Saga of the 1986 Swift Current Broncos.

”We have seen firsthand this past 15 months, just how difficult the stresses have been on people. Men seem to have been hit especially hard,” says Wilkie. “Our culture is one in which it is often difficult for men to share their internal struggles for fear of appearing weak, but we don’t need to struggle the way we, as men do. Our upcoming webinar will be a discussion about what happens to us as men and why we struggle.”
