MEDICINE HAT, AB – Live entertainment took a hit over the last 18 months.

That industry is now slowly coming back with shows and performances being planned again.

Mad Hatter Comedy Club opens this weekend.

It’s their first show in seven months after only a handful that they were able to put on in the last year.

Owner Stephanie Foley says it feels like her first show as she prepares the club for opening night on Saturday.

Right now they are at reduced capacity and are selling cohort booth seats.

She says comedians are ready to get back in the groove.

“What was really frustrating for us throughout this whole pandemic is it was a sad time for a lot of people and it’s our job to bring joy. We wanted to be that essential service but we couldn’t. So I think a lot of them I’m seeing all over Facebook, even major headliners are saying, ‘first time on stage in 18 months and I was nervous but it was like riding a bike.’”

There are a couple of tickets left for the early and late show tomorrow (Sat. June 26).

The set includes four comedians from Lethbridge and two locals.

The club will have comedians every Saturday night and upcoming shows will be planned three weeks in advance.

Foley says they are having a private mock show tonight to work off the cobwebs and jitters.
