MEDICINE HAT, AB – The student leadership class at Crescent Heights High School is helping local charities in Medicine Hat.

The philanthropists presented cheques to five organizations on Thursday.

It’s in partnership with the Community Foundation of Southeastern Alberta (CFSEA)

Youth decide where a portion of funds from the CFSEA will support.

Students go through the CFSEA vital signs survey, look at the city’s needs, then choose an agency where the money will go towards.

The city’s Ronald McDonald House was one of the charities that received funds.

Grade 12 leadership student Colton MacDonald says the house does great work for the community.

“I absolutely appreciate what they’re doing for all these sick families and all these sick kids and it’s just really amazing work and it’s awesome,” he said.

GM of the local house Cassi Hider says the $900 donation will help fill their cupboards at the house with fresh everyday foods.

“It just goes to show that we still have philanthropy up and coming young people within our community and within our world and how they are really impacted by the charities they’ve chosen,” she said.

Hider adds the Ronald McDonald House has been quite busy in a lot of areas. They have supported a lot of youth mental health in the last 3 months, and continue to support families with NICU babies and labouring moms.

Additionally, the Canadian Mental Health Association received $1,000, Redcliff Youth Centre $300, Medicine Hat & District Food Bank $900, and APARC accepted $500.
