COVID-19 update: Province confirms 165 new cases, positivity rate drops to 2.8 per cent

MEDICINE HAT, AB- There are 165 new cases of COVID-19 across the province today. The total number of active cases is 3,180. The province said over 5,800 tests were completed over the past 24 hours. The provincial positivity rate is 2.8 percent, down from 3.3 percent on Saturday.

The province also confirmed 109 new variants of concern. There are 272 people in the hospital, including 75 in ICU. The province also confirmed one new death.

The percentage of Albertans who have received at least one dose of the vaccine is 68.7 per cent according to the province.

In Medicine Hat, there are 30 active cases, 1201 recoveries, and 22 deaths. A total of 56.6 per cent of the population has received at least one dose of the vaccine/

In a weekend media release, the Medicine Hat Public School division confirmed two more cases have been identified in connection to George Davidson School. All close contacts have been identified and directed to self-isolate. The school remains open and is on alert status.

Cypress County has five active cases, 291 recoveries and one recorded death.

Newell County has 11 active cases, 227 recoveries and two recorded deaths.

Brooks has 14 active cases, 1,472 recoveries and 15 deaths.

The Municipal District of Taber has two active cases, 563 recoveries and six recorded deaths.

Lethbridge County has 15 active cases. 1.227 recoveries and 12 recorded deaths.

The city of Lethbridge has 25 active cases, 2,764 recoveries and 38 deaths.

Over 3 million doses of the vaccine have been administered so far.

Late yesterday, the province unveiled that a vaccine lottery will be coming to the province to encourage more people to get vaccinated. More details, according to the province will be revealed on Monday.
