Experience Medicine Hat Guide ‘a compelling lure,’ says tourism head

MEDICINE HAT, AB – With Alberta aiming to lift health restrictions in early July, Tourism Medicine Hat may have just what you need to fill your summer schedule.

The group launched its Experience Medicine Hat Guide earlier this month.

“Really what we’re looking to provide in a publication like this is a compelling lure,” says Tourism Medicine Hat executive director Jace Anderson. “An opportunity for a traveller to see in the content something that peaks to them or draws their attention and then inspires them to linger and spend a little bit more time here.”

You can see it on the Tourism Medicine Hat website now and physical copies will be delivered to homes, businesses and other locations in the city.

The pages of the guide are filled with everything the city and region has to offer. There’s a section on the self-guided walking tours of historic downtown, info on iconic landmarks, food and drink options and plenty for outdoor enthusiasts.

Anderson says the entire team at Tourism Medicine Hat thinks it’s the best one they’ve ever produced.

He says a significant part of the tourism and visitor market for Medicine Hat is visiting friends and relatives. He says those visitors may not see themselves as tourists and may not be looking to do touristy things, but do want to have an experience that is unique and special for this place.

On the other side, the people that are hosting are eager to show a little bit of the community they’ve chosen to live in and the community they’ve fallen in love with.

“So in large part, our guide is designed to help those locals, tho help those first round of ambassadors, those people that love the city and would like to have a reference tool in front of them so that when they’re recruiting friends and relatives to meet here … or in the moment when they’ve arrived and they’re looking for things to see and do while they’re in town, this guide gives a really strong visual and written feel fro what we provide as a community.”

Anderson calls Medicine Hatters the city’s primary ambassadors.

“So they get a chance to thumb through the guide and both be affirmed that they see their home in that magazine but also be excited about what it offers for them and for their visiting friends and relatives,” he says. “As a result, the traffic in our community will be increased and that’s really good for our entire sector.”

The guides will be sent as far east as Manitoba, into the B.C. Interior, throughout Alberta and possibly into Montana and Idaho.
