Familiar faces

New management structure guiding Co-op Place

MEDICINE HAT, AB — When people are once again able to attend Tigers hockey games, concert or other shows, they will notice some changes at the city’s largest entertainment venue.

The city is tapping two familiar faces to coordinate management at both the Esplanade and Co-op Place.

Since taking over management of the event centre from AGM in August of last year, the city has been busy, with a new naming agreement with South Country Co-op, new signage and transitioning to a new operational structure.

That includes the decision to combine management and staff across both venues, beginning with the management team.

Managing Director of Public Services with the City of Medicine Hat Brian Mastel says Trampas Brown and Aaron Nelson will expand their roles within the city to oversee management and operations at Co-op Place.

“Between those two faces that are familiar with the community, they will be taking the lead on the combined entertainment focus,” says Mastel.

Mastel notes the transition work from AGM was led by Dave Young, who has 25 years of experience with the city and will continue to provide support to the operation.

Mastel says people working on the technical side, including setting up the lights and the sound, will be common between both the Esplanade and Co-op Place.

When it comes to booking the two venues, Mastel says they will match the act to the appropriate location, something that’s made easier by having common management in place in both places.
