MEDICINE HAT — The city of Medicine Hat begins it’s annual check of natural gas distribution infrastructure next Monday, and business and home owners should be on the lookout for the inspector.

Nearly 7 thousand residential and commercial services are scheduled to be inspected this year. It’s a long list and doesn’t allow for the inspector to seek permission from each property owner before entering their yards.

Contractors will carry City of Medicine Hat identification and will follow COVID 19 protocols.

Kent Edney, manager of gas operations for the city of Medicine Hat, says most of the gas lines are in alleys and back lanes, and that’s where inspectors will be seen most often.

“So he’ll be walking those main lines and looking for leaks and any other issues we might need to repair” says Edney.

” From a homeowners perspective, he’s hopefully going to have access to the yard, he’ll come in the back gate, just walk the line with his equipment up to their meter or where the gas enters their home”.

Edney says the inspector will take his readings, head back out, close the gate and be on his way.

Homeowners can help by making sure there’s no obstacles blocking access to regulators and meters on the home.

The inspector will begin in the southwest area of the city on Monday, eventually covering an area that includes the region between the river and Kin Coulee, as well as parts of Riverside and Northwest Crescent Heights.
