COVID-19 update: Province confirms 1,633 new cases

EDMONTON, AB– The province of Alberta has confirmed 1,633 new cases of COVID-19
on Sunday. Of the total number of new cases, 411 are variants of concern. Variant cases now consist of 44.5 per cent of the total number of active cases across the province.

Over the past 24 hours, the province said 15,509 tests were completed, and the provincial positivity rate stands at 10.3 per cent. According to Hinshaw, there are currently 668 people in hospital, including 155 in ICU. The province also recorded two additional deaths.

In Medicine Hat, there are 239 active cases, 796 recoveries and 18 recorded deaths.

In Cypress County there are 19 active cases and 220 recoveries.

The County of Forty Mile has nine active cases, 141 recoveries, and three recorded deaths.

The Municipal District of Taber has 62 active cases, 473 recoveries, and six recorded deaths.

The County of Newell has 15 active cases, 174 recoveries, and two recorded deaths.

The City of Brooks has 41 active cases, 1380 recoveries and, 14 recorded deaths.

Lethbridge County has 175 active cases, 927 recoveries, and 12 recorded deaths.

Case numbers in the city of Lethbridge currently stand at 443 active cases, 4021 recoveries, and 36 deaths.

On Twitter Sunday afternoon, the province’s chief medical officer of health encouraged Albertans to book a vaccination appointment, stating, vaccination is one of the most important steps Albertans can take.
