MEDICINE HAT, AB – Property assessment notices will begin arriving in mailboxes today.

The City of Medicine Hat says the notices were mailed this week.

Legislation allows property owners 60 days from the Notice of Assessment date (May 17) to review and discuss any concerns with the City’s Assessment Department, the city says.

“It is important to contact the Assessment Department for an explanation before filing an appeal. Purchasers of property should obtain or confirm the assessment value if the sale occurs during the appeal period,” reads a release from the city.

City council set the annual tax rate on May 3 and tax notices will be mailed out May 21. Property assessment appeals for all property types must be received by the Clerk of the Assessment Review Board by July 19.

Tax payments are due June 30.

The city says that property owners and purchasers must review their Assessment Notices before the 60-day appeal period ends as Property Tax Notices cannot be disputed.
