MEDICINE HAT, AB – There are newly upgraded amenities for new mothers to enjoy at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital, just in time for Mother’s Day.

The hospital has added 38 state-of-the art bassinets.

Heather Bach, executive director of the Medicine Hat & District Health Foundation, is excited about the new upgrades.

“We just want to make sure our newest citizens and new families have the best and the gold standard and that’s these are,” Bach said. “They’re going to last a lifetime and it’s safety for mom and baby and that’s why we wanted to make sure we had all those things in place, start the world off right.”

The Medicine Hat & District Health Foundation raised $152,000 for its Bassinets for Babies campaign.

Besides the bassinets, the campaign also included a family-friendly rejuvenation to the maternity department.

Paintergirl Christy Vince was hired to take her talents to the walls, painting forest and wildlife throughout the department.

Vince says it was awesome to be a part of it and to create a happy and inviting space.

“I’ve been on that floor,” Vince said. “There’s nothing up there and it’s supposed to be the happiest time of your life having your children and there was nothing up there, it was a blank canvas.”

Families are already enjoying the new paintings. Vince says she’s received pictures of new moms with their babies in front of her work.
