MEDICINE HAT, AB – Medicine Hat Catholic students have a plan to plant trees this week.

Grade 1 and 2 students from St. Francis Xavier, Mother Teresa, St. Patrick’s and École St. John Paul II were given small seedlings that they can take and plant at home. In total, 312 Catholic students are taking part in Alberta Forest Week.

The seedlings are either White Spruce or Lodgepole Pine, both of which are suited to grow in a variety of conditions.

The tree planting program was started more than 60 years ago by Alberta Agriculture and Forestry, with the aim to teach youth the value of trees.
