Alberta’s Wood Buffalo region to declare state of emergency

The mayor of a northern Alberta region planning to impose a state of emergency to fight a COVID-19 crisis says vaccine availability could be a way out.
Don Scott of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo says he has spoken to Premier Jason Kenney about solutions for the area that includes Fort McMurray.
Scott says part of the problem is that many workers and their families in the heart of the oilsands are too young to qualify for COVID-19 vaccinations.
He says the region has a significant problem with variants and getting more people vaccinated could help address rising cases that are putting hospitals under pressure.
