Medicine Hat College getting ready for full-time on-campus learning

MEDICINE HAT, AB – As Alberta’s COVID-19 vaccine rollout continues, Health Minister Tyler Shandro anticipates every adult will be eligible to receive their first dose of the vaccine by the end of June.

That has Advanced Education Minister Demetrios Nicolaides encouraging all post-secondary institutions to prepare for a full return to on-campus learning this upcoming September.

Medicine Hat College is getting ready to welcome students back full-time, regardless if they have received their vaccine or not. Kevin Shufflebotham, college president and CEO, believes getting the vaccine is a personal choice.

But he also says keeping students and staff safe and healthy is of the utmost importance and they will continually monitor health and safety protocols.

“So we have a dedicated person at the college continually monitoring the guidelines provided by the Alberta government. We’ve also had a group of academic portfolio group of individuals working to determine you know, can a course be offered face to face or does it need to be offered online,” he said.

Medicine Hat College will continue to offer some courses online in order to make sure that students are being provided with as many opportunities as possible.
