RCMP are attempting to find a child that has been reported missing.

At approximately 1:50 pm on Saturday, April 10, Coaldale RCMP responded to a call of a missing five-year-old boy.

He was camping with his family in an area along the Old Man River south of Picture Butte and is believed to have wandered from the camping area to the river to play.

Officials from several RCMP, fire, and search and rescue agencies are teaming up to search for the boy.

“Due to the extremely poor weather conditions and approaching darkness, the search will be suspended at nightfall and will resume at first light tomorrow morning,” reads a media release from Coaldale RCMP.

“The search team is fully resourced with trained personal, and the RCMP would like to ask the public and media to avoid the area south of Picture Butte, along the Old Man River, so that their efforts are unencumbered. The RCMP recognizes that the community is willing to assist but are asking that they do so by keeping the child and the child’s family in their thoughts and prayers.”

More information will be sent out when it becomes available.
