Former Hatter sentenced to seven and a half years for child sex crime, bestiality

MEDICINE HAT, AB – A former Medicine Hat man will spend seven and a half years in prison for a series of disturbing sexual offenses involving a young child and animals.

Cody Herrell was sentenced Thursday on charges of sexual assault, child pornography and bestiality.

He was originally charged in September 2019 following an investigation by ALERT’s Internet Child Exploitation unit.

Additional sex-related charges were laid in February 2020 following the search and seizure of several electronic devices.

Herrell pleaded guilty to all charges against him in October.

The prosecution had been asking for a 10-year sentence while the defence had suggested six and a half years.
