MEDICINE HAT, AB – A student at Medicine Hat College has been nominated for a Canadian Land Reclamation Association award.

Grace Porter is pursuing an Environmental Reclamation Technician diploma at MHC.

Even though she’s from Medicine Hat, a city that focuses on energy development, her passion for the environment came as a young girl.

Porter enjoyed yearly camping trips to the mountains, gardening and hiking. She is also a student-athlete, playing soccer and volleyball for the Rattlers.

The CLRA award Porter is nominated for recognizes a student’s academic achievement.

She says she’s proud her hard work in the classroom is acknowledged.

“It’s really encouraging,” Porter said. “It kinda feels like all my hard work has paid off.”

She wants to pursue a career outdoors and is interested in working in wildlife conservation or in the parks.
