Approximately 950 new cases confirmed in preliminary update Sunday

EDMONTON, AB– In a preliminary update provided this afternoon, Alberta Health has confirmed 950 new cases of COVID-19 province-wide

A total of 600 new variant cases were also confirmed.

Dr Deena Hinshaw said on Twitter that 38 per cent of the province’s active case count are variants of concerns.

11,2000 lab tests were completed over a 24 hour period. The provincial positivity rate stands at eight per cent.

Hospitalizations remain stable, according to Hinshaw. She also confirmed 8000 doses of the vaccine were administered on April 3. To date 693,000 doses have been administered.

Updated regional numbers were not provided. As of the last update, provided before the Easter holiday, Medicine Hat had 28 active cases.

An official update on COVID-19 numbers is expected Monday.
