Province investigating ‘significant’ outbreak involving variant

EDMONTON,AB- In a preliminary update provided Saturday, Alberta Health confirmed 1,100 new cases of COVID-19 across the province.

Taking to Twitter, Dr Deena Hinshaw, confirmed 550 new cases variants of concern. Roughly 35 per cent of active cases are variants of concern.

12,100 lab tests were completed over a 24 hour period, bringing the provincial positivity rate to 9 per cent.

The number of hospitalizations, according to Hinshaw, remains stable.

Earlier in the day, Dr, Deena Hinshaw announced the investigation of a significant COVID-19 outbreak involving the Brazil variant.

Not many details were provided other than the outbreak involved a returning traveler.

Hinshaw said more details about the outbreak will be shared on April 4.

Updated regional COVID-19 numbers were not provided.

An update is slated to occur Monday, April 5.

Medicine Hat currently has 28 active cases.
