No new restrictions coming despite rise in COVID variants, Kenney says

Apr 1, 2021 | 12:59 PM

Premier Jason Kenney says his government won’t impose new restrictions in Alberta despite a rising number of more contagious COVID-19 variant cases.

The province recorded 871 new infections yesterday — nearly 300 more than a day earlier.

That’s the biggest day-over-day increase since mid-January.

Nearly 32 per cent of Alberta’s active cases involved variants of concern, up from about 20 per cent a week ago and three per cent in late January.

Kenney says he will discuss the situation today with chief medical officer of health Dr. Deena Hinshaw.

Kenney and Hinshaw will deliver the province’s latest COVID-19 update Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
