COVID-19 update: 24.5 per cent of active cases listed as variants of concern, according to Hinshaw

EDMONTON, AB– There are 668 new cases of COVID-19 confirmed across the province Saturday, including 207 new variant cases.

The province’s chief medical officer of health confirmed 7,366 total active cases province-wide. 24.5 per cent of those are variant of concern cases. The South zone has 169 variant cases, all of which are listed as the B.1.1.7. UK variant.

Hinshaw also confirmed 283 hospitalizations and 63 ICU admissions. She also confirmed one additional death.

Over the past 24 hours, 11,500 tests were completed. The provincial positivity rate is 5. 7 per cent.

In Medicine Hat, there are 11 active cases of COVID-19, 547 recoveries and 17 recorded deaths.

Cypress County has one active case and 146 recoveries.

The County of Newell has two active cases, 158 recoveries, and two recorded deaths.

The city of Brooks has three active cases, 1350 recoveries, and 14 recorded deaths.

The County of Forty Mile has six active deaths, 116 recoveries, and three recorded deaths.

Lethbridge County has 103 active cases, 551 recoveries, and eight recorded deaths.

The City of Lethbridge has 506 active cases, 2508 recoveries, and 30 recorded deaths.

Dr. Deena Hinshaw encouraged all eligible individuals to book their vaccines either online or by calling 8-1-1.
