Prosecution wraps case in Hoefman trial, closing arguments Tuesday

Mar 22, 2021 | 11:36 AM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The fate of Robert Hoefman – on trial for first-degree murder and extortion – will be in the hands of the jury this week.

The prosecution closed its case this morning and the defence won’t be calling witnesses or presenting any evidence.

Closing arguments will be heard on Tuesday, with jury deliberations to follow.

The trial is entering its fourth week. It had been scheduled for seven weeks.

Hoefman is charged in the October 2017 murder of James Satre.

Prosecutors believe Satre was a random victim chosen to further the extortion plot, the target of which is protected by a publication ban.
