Jobs minister encouraged by Alberta gains
Statistics Canada says the country’s economy added 259,000 jobs in February, almost wiping out losses sustained over the previous two months.
Alberta’s minister of jobs, economy and innovation says the gains in the country and province are a positive sign. Alberta’s jobless rate is 9.9 per cent, down from 10.7 per cent the month before.
“It is encouraging to see that 17,000 jobs were created in Alberta last month, which brings our unemployment rate to its lowest level in a year,” said Doug Schweitzer in a statement.
The minister is hopeful this is the beginning of a bounce-back for Alberta’s economy and job market.
