More Albertans eligible as of Monday

Alberta’s vaccination program moves to Phase 2A on Monday

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Starting on March 15, an increasing number of Albertans will be eligible to get vaccinated against COVID-19.

The province has announced that they will be moving to Phase 2A of the vaccination program on that day.

This means that all Albertans born between 1947 and 1956 will be able to book their appointments as well as First Nations, Metis, and Inuit people born in 1971 or earlier.

They will be able to get doses from Moderna or Pfizer.

The AstraZeneca vaccine is also available to all Albertans born between 1957 and 1971, and First Nations, Métis and Inuit people born between 1972 and 1986.

Phase 2A also includes staff and residents of licences supportive living facilities who were not already eligible.

“Momentum is building in Alberta’s vaccine rollout plan, and we are well on our way to delivering on our commitment to provide a first dose to every adult who wants one by the end of June,” says Health Minister Tyler Shandro. “The more people who step forward for vaccination when it’s their turn, the faster we’ll reduce the spread of the virus and resume activities that are important to all of us and our communities.”

A larger number of Albertan pharmacies will be able to offer COVID-19 vaccines starting next week including The Medicine Shoppe in Lethbridge.

Eligible Albertans can book their vaccination appointments on the AHS online booking tool or by phoning Health Link at 811.
