Medicine Hat police focusing on cybercrimes, online scams to start Fraud Prevention Month
MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Medicine Hat Police Service Community Safety Unit will be sharing information to protect people from fraud throughout March, which is Fraud Prevention Month in Canada.
The goal of the month is to raise awareness and to educate and inform consumers and the community on how to recognize, report and stop fraud.
The Medicine Hat Police Service says it has seen a sharp increase with the number of reported frauds more than doubling over the past three years.
Across the country, tens of thousands of Canadians of all ages and from all walks of life are defrauded each year, in excess of $100 million dollars in 2020 alone.
