TABER, AB – An online petition is demanding that a high school teacher in Taber be fired.

In the petition, more than one dozen individuals made accusations that the teacher at W.R. Myers High School made sexual comments or sexual contact with students or otherwise conducted himself in inappropriate manners.

A few others commenting on the petition added more claims of inappropriate behaviour.

As of this publication, over 550 people have signed the petition.

A statement from the Horizon School Division says that, while they are not able to speak to the specifics of any individual situation, they are aware of the petition.

The school board adds that they have launched a review.

“The individual is not in direct contact with students, pending the outcome of our complete review.”

“Our decisions and actions are guided by our commitment to student safety, our responsibility under the Education Act, respect for the legal process and respect for the privacy of all individuals,” reads a portion of the statement from Horizon School Division.

Global News has confirmed with Taber Police that they have not received any reports on this matter.

Since these are all accusations and no charges have been laid, we will not name the teacher at this time.
