MEDICINE HAT, AB – Alberta Health has confirmed to CHAT News that there is an active COVID-19 outbreak at the AgeCare Valleyview long-term-care facility in the city.

Alberta Health says it has been notified of five cases linked to this outbreak. They are all currently active.

The outbreak was opened on Feb. 12.

“We take every outbreak extremely seriously. As with any outbreak, health officials are working with the operator to ensure that mandatory protocols are implemented and all necessary steps taken to limit the spread and protect the health of residents and staff,” a statement from Alberta Health reads.

“As applicable, regular testing is offered to all residents and anyone who is at risk of exposure is isolated to prevent further spread. Mandatory outbreak protocols have been implemented. This includes implementing strict infection prevention and control measures, resident and staff screening, and enhanced cleaning measures.”

“It is critical that we continue to protect our seniors, in and out of continuing care. They are at a higher risk of severe outcomes.”
