MEDICINE HAT, AB- Residents inside a four-plex on Dunmore Road, are spending the night elsewhere after a fire occurred inside their building Saturday afternoon.

Medicine Hat Platoon Chief Lane Lindsay said crews responded to the fire at around 3:50 p.m.

“They knocked down the structure fire inside one of the units, but because of the smoke and working conditions, they had to evacuate all four units,” Platoon Chief Lindsay said.

“ We had our Fire Chaplain there to assist with getting people occupancy somewhere tonight, and I believe they went to a hotel,” he added, noting there were no injuries.

Platoon Chief Lindsay was unable to confirm the exact number of people displaced but he said all four units were occupied.

The exact cause of the fire is unknown.

Platoon Chief Lindsay said the fire was put out near an electrical outlet situated on an interior wall. Fire crews did a trench cut to the roof in order to help extinguish the blaze.

The fire is still under investigation.
