LPS working with AHS to address potential business openings, in contravention of COVID restrictions

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Lethbridge Police Service is teaming with Alberta Health Services to respond to the potential opening of several businesses Monday.

Openings would be in contravention of mandatory provincial health measures in light of COVID-19.

“Both AHS and LPS are aware of recent ‘call to action’ posts on social media regarding business concerns over COVID-19 health measures,” Lethbridge Police stated.

“As the matter falls under Alberta Health Services’ jurisdiction, Lethbridge Police will provide them with assistance as required, and forward to them any specific complaints received from the public.”

LPS says its priority continues to be the safety and well-being of the entire community.

Last week, the province said that current COVID-19 restrictions would remain in effect until at least January 21.

Some of the measures introduced in November and December were set to expire today, Jan. 11 but the government said they need more time to observe the full effect of Christmas and New Year’s activities on COVID-19 numbers.
