COVID-19 update: 811 new cases, positivity rate stands at 6.4 per cent

EDMONTON, AB- The province of Alberta confirmed 811 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday bringing the total number of active cases to 14,116.

The province’s chief medical officer of health, Dr. Deena Hinshaw said 12,302 tests were completed bringing the provincial positivity rate to 6.4 per cent.

The province also recorded 12 new deaths.

A total of 96,052 cases have recovered.

There are 794 people in the hospital and 128 people in intensive care.

In Medicine Hat, there are 37 active cases of the virus and 448 recoveries. Nine people have died.

Cypress County has five active cases and 140 recoveries.

Taking to Twitter, Dr. Deena Hinshaw said they are continuing to ramp up vaccine administration. Thus far, 44,994 doses of the vaccine have been administered at a rate of 1017.5 doses per 100,000.

The chief medical officer of health also stressed for Albertans to follow public health guidelines.
