COUNTY OF FORTY MILE, AB – The storming of the U.S. Capitol stunned many Americans living across the globe, including a Denver native who lives in the County of Forty Mile who was shocked and appalled by the images circulating Wednesday.

American Liz Collinge has lived in Canada for two decades and is a supporter of President Donald Trump.

She believes there were election irregularities and those wreaking havoc in Washington, D.C. weren’t truly Trump supporters but likely paid protesters from the other side of the political spectrum.

But when it comes to what her fellow Americans should do next, it’s to support the transition to President-Elect Joe Biden and get on with working together to make the country better.

“I think we have to deal with what we’ve got now – the Americans do,” said Collinge. “I think they have to get behind Biden if they can. They may not agree. The Democrats haven’t agreed with Trump and tried to do everything they could to impede his presidential job.”

Georgia native Luke Gledhill has been working in the Hat for about a year and says he was “horrified” by the scenes that unfolded at the U.S. Capitol.

While he said there were many ingredients that went into the recipe for destruction, “the biggest factor is the one who is currently the president,” adding, “his inability to accept defeat is a big part of it.”

As for what he’d like to see next, Gledhill says he wants the national polarization to be toned down a.

“I want my country back,” said Gledhill.
