On-demand transit service expanding to include hospital area

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Medicine Hat Transit’s on-demand bus service is expanding again.

The area around the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital, route 21, is the latest area to be included in the service.

Starting on Jan. 7, MHTnow will roll from 6:45-10:45 p.m., replacing the current route.

“This route falls within the MHTnow Central Zone, which is already providing service to the River Flats and South Hill neighbourhoods,” says transit manager Mike Spicer in a release. “After an assessment of those routes, we feel confident that MHTnow will meet the needs of riders traveling to and from the hospital.”

Spicer adds Medicine Hat Transit is thrill to see how the community has embraced the service.

The MHTnow project began started operating in the city’s northeast and northwest neighbourhoods in September and in November was expanded to include the River Flats and South Hill areas.

The city encourages riders of route 21 to download the MHTnow app, available on the App Store and Google Play. The app allows riders to see the location of their bus, the estimated time of arrival, and receive notifications on their phone before the bus arrives.

The city is also asking the public for feedback regarding Transit services, including MHTnow. An online survey can be found on Shape Your City.
