MEDICINE HAT, AB – Local students were crafting before the holidays to create holiday cards for seniors in our community.

And they were busy.

Over 1,400 cards were created with seasonal greetings for those in care homes and long term care.

The cards were safely distributed before Christmas to 12 lodges including Good Samaritan South Ridge Village, Masterpiece, Meadow Ridge, Meadowlands, Wellington, Chinook Village, South Country Village, Riverview Care Centre, Valleyview, River Ridge, St. Joseph’s Home, and Cypress View Foundation.

The card project was in part with the Rotary Ignite club’s two holiday light parades that were held in December.

Ignite member Karen Blewett says the cards were a personal touch to go along with the parade.

“As part of this convoy is to spread Christmas cheer by giving each individual senior a card. And so we’re so excited to have 12 different schools from across Medicine Hat and Redcliff, a dance studio, as well as other friends of Rotary and families putting cards together. We actually have over 1,400 cards and we’re very excited about that,” Blewett said.

The schools and clubs involved in the card creation include:

Wilson Learning Centre, Ecole St. John Paul II, Margaret Wooding, River Heights, Crestwood, Webster Niblock, Ecole Cypress, Dr. Ken Sauer, St. Frances Xavier, Ross Glen, CHHS Theatre Arts Class, and Limelitez Dance Academy.
