MEDICINE HAT — The possibility for a White Christmas in Medicine Hat, and for most of Southern Alberta, has increased with a system moving into the province this morning from British Columbia.

Environment Canada has issued snowfall warnings for all of Southern Alberta.

Snow, heavy at times is expected to start later this morning in the Rockies near the British Columbia border and move east towards the Saskatchewan border by the evening hours.

Total snowfall amounts may exceed 50 cm in areas along the mountains and foothills.

Forecasters have pencilled in 10 to 20 cm of snow for Medicine Hat and area.

Snowfall is expected to taper off by late in the day on Tuesday.

Environment Canada says motorists should prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions.

There may be a significant impact on rush hour traffic in urban areas.

Take frequent breaks and avoid strain when clearing snow.
