Rotary Ignite spreading cheer through Christmas Convoys

Dec 6, 2020 | 9:28 AM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Medicine Hat’s newest Rotary Club is looking to ignite the Christmas spirit in Medicine Hat.

Rotary Ignite Medicine Hat is inviting anyone and everyone to join its Rotary Christmas Convoys on Dec. 10 and 17 beginning at 6 p.m.

Karen Blewett, club member and one of the organizers of the convoys, says they want to put smiles on the faces of vulnerable Hatters who may be missing their regular holiday festivities this year.

“The main goal to spread the Christmas cheer to those that can’t get out to see the lights and do those different kinds of things,” said Blewett. “So we’ve actually been in touch with all the seniors’ homes and lodges across the community.”

Blewett adds they’re hoping to see people lining the streets in some of those areas where seniors’ residences are such high-traffic ones along 13th Avenue SE and Southview Drive.

A final route map and meeting time weren’t nailed down on Friday, but Blewett says it will be added to its social media pages when it’s done.

Blewett says at least 20 members of the club are signed up to participate and they’re hoping to see more families and businesses join.

The club began meeting informally this past April.
