MEDICINE HAT, AB- A COVID-19 outbreak has been declared at Dr. Roy Wilson Learning School. In a letter to parents, the school division confirms another positive case of COVID-19 has been identified.

According to AHS, an outbreak occurs when there are two or more positive cases of COVID-19 within 28 days at the same school.

Some students and staff have been directed to self-isolate, according to the MHPSD.

“It appears that the exposure was limited to the class and associated staff and we are confident, based on AHS guidance, that any staff member or student who is not a close contact can attend work and school safely. With the recent additional health measures, more than a third of our student population will be learning from home, reducing the possibility of transmission in our school,” the letter to parents read.

The school will be open by appointment for students. Parents of students and staff are asked to monitor for symptoms of COVID-19 and if symptoms persist, call 811 and stay home.

” We know that it may be difficult to hear of a rising number of cases at our school and in our community. At this point AHS believes that each positive case has been transmitted outside of school. We continue our diligence with health and safety measures in order to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in our community,” the letter read.

Custodial staff have been directed to perform a thorough cleaning of the school and all high touch surfaces.
