MEDICINE HAT, AB – The City of Medicine Hat’s Electric Utility department has been honoured for its commitment to safety.

The Electric Utility won the 2020 Canadian Electricity Association’s President’s Award of Excellence for Employee Safety at its annual Occupational Health and Safety Awards on Monday.

“Our electric generation and distribution staff unquestionably deserve this award. They treat safety as part of their lifestyle in the industry they work in. I couldn’t be more proud,” said Grayson Mauch, general manager of Utility Distribution Systems, in a release.

“Receiving this award is an acknowledgement of the safe work decisions our dedicated staff make every day. Every member of our team makes a personal commitment to safety through his or her actions, and it is an honour to be recognized with this CEA award,” adds Josh Gale, acting general manager of Electric Generation.

The CEA’s President’s Award is presented to electricity service providers that achieved the top ranking in Total Recordable Injury Frequency (TRIF) amongst their peers of comparable size in generation, transmission or distribution operations. Medicine Hat won in both the Generation category and the Distribution category in “Group 1” which applies to workgroups with less than 300 full-time employees.
