Nov 23, 2020 | 2:43 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The YMCA’s drive-thru recruitment event this week is looking to fill upwards of 50 -100 jobs.

It’s the employment centre’s second drive-thru event.

Employment Centre Manager Jodie Engbert says the first was highly successful with Borea Construction who were looking to hire about 100 employees for three renewable energy projects in southeastern Alberta.

She says Borea was able to conduct 220 one-on-one interviews with job seekers at the event and will be advancing approximately 75 of those job seekers into the next phase of their recruitment process over the coming weeks.

Now, five employers are going to be present on Wednesday, November 25 at the Cypress Centre Pavilion.

And each is hiring a minimum of five people to their staff.

To follow COVID-19 restrictions, two employers will be hosted at a time during a two-hour time slot.

Following a health assessment form, job seekers will line up to enter a drive-thru bay.

Four vehicles will be allowed in at a time, and they will have face to face contact with a recruiter.

Engbert says employers include positions at Servus Credit Union, Tim Hortons, and YMCA of Medicine Hat.

As well as CBI Health who are looking for health care aides.

“The government of Alberta correctional services they’re actually looking province-wide to hire 100 individuals. A lot of those will start off as peace workers but the opportunity for other positions as well. On a local level, they’re looking for several positions so it’s not like you’d be required to move for those, there are local positions available as well,” Engbert said.

To view the employer participating times, visit the YMCA’s website.

Masks are required during the event.

Engbert says jobs are competitive right now, but there are positions out there.

“It is an employer market definitely. There are definitely a large number of applicants that go out for any vacancies. However, people are still hiring so by having these types of events between the employers that are going to be present we’re looking to fill upward of 50-100 jobs.”

She encourages job seekers to attend these types of events to get employed.

And reminds attendees to bring your resume.
