Schools hoping for best, prepared for elevated precautions for learning

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Classes are expected to resume at city public schools come Monday after a three-day break this week but board officials have a plan if Alberta Education moves to enhanced restrictions.

In the summer, the provincial government presented three scenarios for school this year. Schools are currently operating under Scenario One which has largely seen them return to near-normal in-person classes.

Scenario Two would see that change with Grade 3 and up going to in-person classes every other day. Those in the lower grades and the early learning program along with some other exceptions will maintain daily in-person classes.

Medicine Hat Public School Division superintendent Mark Davidson says parents should familiarize themselves with plans associated with Scenario Two.

“And they can find them on our website under the scenario plans or they can communicate with their schools,” said Davidson. “That’s why we communicate with families well in advance of having any signal that we would be moving to Scenario Two, what days their children would attend so they can start thinking about contingency plans around care.”

Scenario Three would see in-person classes suspended and a resumption of virtual learning.
