Snowfall warning issued for Medicine Hat, Cypress Hills

MEDICINE HAT, AB – A snowfall warning is in effect for the region.

Environment Canada issued the warning for the Medicine Hat-Bow Island-Suffield region and Cypress Hills Provincial Park-Foremost region at 1:38 p.m. on Tuesday.

The heaviest snowfall is expected to be over and just north of the Cypress Hills, where about 10-15 cm of snow is expected. Medicine Hat and areas north of the city are expected to see closer to 5 cm of snow.

Environment Canada says to prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow.

Later on Tuesday, a weather statement was issued for southwestern Saskatchewan.

Environment Canada says the system will move from Alberta to Saskatchewan.

In addition to the snow, northwest winds gusting to 50 or 60 km/h will produce pockets of blowing snow especially in areas west of Swift Current near the Trans Canada Highway. The worst conditions are likely between midnight and noon.
